As you get off the ship there are busses waiting to take
you to the main area where there is some shopping, taxis
and where you meet your tour guides for your excursions.
We walked through the shops but really didn’t see any
deals or anything we had to have. You’re also welcomed
by the pulsating sounds of the steel pan here as well. A
short taxi ride and we were in Bridgetown, the capital
city of Barbados. Bridgetown is a bustling city, but no
duty free as in St Maarten or St Thomas. We spent about
2-3 hours walking about the city and getting some unique
Bajan souvenirs (my wife collects coffee mugs from every
place we visit).
We then walked over to the “Boat Yard”. What a great
place. You pay an entrance fee and you get full use of
the facilities (water trampoline, beach with chair and
umbrella, water iceberg, swing off their pier) a free
drink, taxi back to the ship, shower and at all times
there is staff watching you and your belongings on the
beach.
The beach area and all that’s there is to do is
simply amazing. And my daughter claims that the French
fires were divine.
A few things I should say about Barbados:
always felt safe
people are very friendly
Boat Yard is a great place to spend the afternoon
don’t expect deals in Bridgetown when shopping
when you said “no thanks” to someone selling something
they politely said thank you and have a nice day. Not
like in other ilands where they tried to force their
goods onto you and insulted you when you didn’t want it.
